|LIGHT BULB|JAN 25, 2012|

Lewis Lattimer, Alexander Graham Bell, Orville & Wilbur Wright, Nikola Tesla, Mark Zuckerberg, & Steve Jobs. Seven men, more than 200 years of age difference, a 3 century gap between technological periods, and 3 different nationalities. So what do these men have in common? A smart answer would be that they all invented something that changed this world as we know it, but that’s obvious. I am looking for a bit more specificity, something on a microscopic scale compared to what these gentlemen have offered mankind. ……….Anything? Alright I’ll explain, all of these guys are a part of an elite club, an organization that only accept a few out of every generation. To my readers who are conspiracy theorists, no it is not the illuminati. This club is only for those who posses a certain power, it doesn’t allow you to jump buildings in a single bound, but not even kryptonite can weaken it. This power gives you the ability to generate an idea, a question, an inclination, a hunch. This is the power of thought, but here is the tricky part, we all have the power of thought, that doesn’t get you in the club, hence the word elite. I can imagine, at one point in history, many people thought of having a light to illuminate, no pun intended, a room instantly, hundreds wished that they could speak to their loved ones without having to write a letter, or ride a horse for days to relay a message. I’m willing to bet a million velvet slippers that the guy who had to ride that horse for days wished that he could just jump in the air and fly to his destination. Every invention has been thought of countless times before its inventor. So I ask what makes these men so special? How did they get in the club? One word, audacity. No matter how many times their inventions were thought of, or how many tried before them, they had the audacity to believe. They had the audacity to persist, when they were told that is was impossible. When people cried from laughter after they expressed their idea, they had the audacity to press forward. After thousands of failed attempts, they had the audacity to try again. This is what separates greatness from mediocrity. Thoughts without action will only become distant memories. That, my friends, is the key gets to getting into the club. I plan on joining the club myself, and i’ll put all of you on the application as a reference.

|WALL OF PERFECTION|JAN 15, 2012|

Will Smith said in a past interview that “You shouldn’t set out to build the baddest wall that any one has ever seen, you should first task yourself of laying each individual brick as perfectly as you can, and soon after your wall will become great.” I never knew the importance of that phrase until now, this weekend I finally was able to apply what Will was saying to my life. I aspire to do a lot of things in my lifetime, and I want my work to remain lifetimes after mine has past, but I do realize that I have been dreaming of building that great wall instead of concerning myself with laying that first brick with perfection. That first brick is more important than the wall itself, because it sets the standard. That first brick sets the tempo of how every brick will be laid from this point forward, it is the model of what that wall will soon become to be. So I have torn down my wall of dreams and begun to lay that brick in the most perfect manner possible. The trick is that the first brick is the creator him/herself. We are the first emblem of perfection that must be created, and at that instant, then will we be able to move forward. Now I am well aware that there is only one perfect being known to man, and I would not dare compare myself, or encourage you to do the same, but knowing that perfection is unattainable, it is the pursuit that is glorious. The pursuit of perfection is what will separate your wall from others, because in perfection there are no short cuts or “build-a-wall quick” schemes, only perfection itself. If you consistently and relentlessly pursue perfection, one day you will have to settle for excellence. If you dedicate your life to laying every brick as perfectly as possible, your wall at worst will be greatness. I task you to lay that first brick…….I know I have…..I’ve got a wall to build!

|IZZRAEL|JAN 8, 2012|

So there I was (Where were you Izzy?), sitting on my balcony having one of my VISIONS, and I thanked God for blessing me, because truth be told, I should be sweeping the floors of a McDonalds in SW Atlanta instead of putting on a flight suit in NE Florida. I thought about the sleepless nights, the tears I’ve shed, the suicidal thoughts, and right when I wanted to give up God would step in and give me strength. Then I thought about the children of Israel and how much we had in common. They had to walk through the wilderness, not knowing where to go, or how long it would be before they reached that place where God wanted them to be. I, myself, had to walk through the wilderness, but this wilderness was a state of mind. This is a place of uncertainty, when you begin to question yourself and the purpose of what you’re doing, a place where every decision seems to be the wrong one. It’s not a good place to be, and many people fall victim, and are trapped in this wilderness. Because of this a lot of people blame life’s trials and tribulations(wilderness) on the devil, honestly I think we are giving the devil too much credit. Now don’t be naive, but at the same time realize that God sends us this trials for a reason. He doesn’t want to hurt us, but we must prove ourselves worthy of his blessings, and these are some massive blessings. Again, looking at the children of Israel, they were God’s chosen people, and they had the opportunity to reach the “Holy Land,” but through their disobedience and lack of faith, it took them 80 years to reach a place that was 2 weeks away. And that is what we all experience, we become so infatuated with the negatives of the wilderness, that we don’t pay attention to the positive outcomes. Outcomes the experience that builds incredible character traits like strength, faith, and determination; you can’t buy these things at Wal-Mart, you have to bleed for these. Once the wounds have healed you realize how strong you’ve become, the little things that scared you before are now an ant under your footstep. And these are the very things that create blessings. Always remember, “Pain may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning,” in lamens terms “Shawty keep pushing and you gone be straight.”
